Newbie Pyrotechnician to Seasoned Licensed Professional
When James decided that he was going to make a business out of his passion for pyrotechnics, of course I was supportive. All you have to do is buy fireworks at the store and light them with a lighter. RIGHT?! Wow was I naive! That was four years ago, and now, I'm the one looking to find ways to expand what we can do. LOL Who knew!?
As a newbie, there was A LOT to learn! It seemed very daunting, and of course I seconded guessed whether or not I should join him on this business venture or just be the supportive sideline wife. As you can see, I stuck it out, and I'm still learning a ton, every year. From learning different types of firework breaks (what you see when the firework goes off in the sky), to what chemical compositions create which colors and so much more.
James is definitely the mastermind behind our displays. Once we pick out our song list, we sit down together and watch videos from vendors to see which fireworks will work for the vision we both share. This takes months usually (simply because we change it a couple times). He is then the one that breaks down and times out every song, so the cues hit at just the right moment. He also has to figure out which fuse to use so it burns at just the right speed (there is A LOT of math involved). 😰
On display day, I assist with wiring and fusing the remainder of the fireworks, so the show can be fired properly. I've never wanted credit or took credit for being part of his team. I simply enjoy helping my husband's artistic masterpiece come to life. This year, I have taken on a much larger responsibility, with taking marketing courses, and updating our brand.
